March is #NationalCraftMonth

It's March, and that means it is, National Craft Month. We get to celebrate the art of crafting, all month long. What a great time to learn a new craft technique or share inspiration.  Cherished Handmade Treasures is going to post several fun, new projects and even some contests.  I'm hoping to keep this month stuffed full of creativity and crafts.  So stay up to date and continue to visit throughout the month of March to see what CHT has in store!

According to the Craft and Hobby Association, about 56 percent of U.S. households include a person with a passion for crafting. Here are a few facts about crafting.
  • Woodworkers spent the most on their craft, about $3.3 billion in 2010, according to the Craft and Hobby Association's Attitude and Usage Survey. Next, in terms of retail spending, were drawing, food crafting, scrapbooking/memory crafts, jewelry making and floral decorating.
  • Women are the majority of those pursuing four out of five of the top craft segments--food crafting, scrapbooking, jewelry making and floral decorating. Males made up 83 percent of those doing woodworking.
  • Food crafting, which is ranked among the top pursuits, includes cake decorating, cupcake decorating, candy making, gingerbread house making and other edible crafts related to holidays, birthdays and celebrations.
  • 14 percent of U.S. households are home to at least one active quilter, according to Quilting in America 2010, a statistical report. The number of quilters is down from 2006, but spending on quilting is up.

Time to get crafty.
