This year for Christmas, I made each of my granddaughter’s a blanket and burp cloth for their baby doll.
Actually, all I had to do was crochet the edge around both. I purchased the matching flannel blankets and burp cloths from a local sewing shop. They have a special machine that makes the holes around the edge. They sell regular sized burp cloths and blankets also. So if you have a new little baby on your holiday list this would be the perfect gift!

If you want to do a different edge than I have done here,
there are lots of patterns all over the Internet. But here are two different shell styles.
Basic Shell~
1st Row - 1SC in each hole, SS to join
2nd Row - CH 2, 1 SC in first stitch, skip 2 stitches, *6 DC
in the next stitch, skip 2 stitches, 1SC in the next stitch, skip 2 stitches**,
repeat *to** SS to join.
Double the Fun Shell~
1st Row - 1SC in each hole, SS to join
2nd Row – DC in each stitch around, SS to join
3rd Row - CH 2, 1 SC in first stitch, 3 HDC in next stitch,
skip next stitch, *1 SC in next stitch, 3 HDC in next stitch, skip next stitch
**, repeat *to** SS to join.
These baby blankets are so beautiful!! I would love to order one for my granddaughter!!
